In honor of Bernard Malamud’s 101st birthday, The Majestic Reader’s Theatre Company and The OSU School of Writing, Literature and Film present TRAGEDY FULL OF JOY: STORIES BY BERNARD MALAMUD. Malamud, a major mid-twentieth century American writer, was a member of the Oregon State English Department from 1949 to 1961. Elena Passarello, David Turkel and Robert Leff adapted four of his short stories: “Steady Customer,” “A Wig,” “The Jewbird,” and “The Magic Barrel.” Malamud wrote the last story in a carrel in the OSC Library in 1954. The title for the evening comes from Malamud’s definition of life.
